The Lycan Irish Werewolf: A Symbol of Our Ethos
At Lycan Grappling Academy, the Irish Lycan is more than a symbol — it’s a reflection of everything we stand for. In Irish mythology, the werewolf (or Faoladh) was not a monster, but a protector — a guardian of children, the wounded, and those in need. Far from the Hollywood horror, the Irish Lycan represents loyalty, courage, and transformation — the very values we strive to cultivate on the mats. Just like the mythical Faoladh, our students undergo a transformation through training. They arrive uncertain, perhaps timid — and leave stronger, more confident, and more capable of protecting themselves and others. Whether you’re a child learning resilience, an adult building confidence, or a competitor chasing excellence, the Lycan ethos is with you. We embrace the spirit of the pack. Everyone who trains here is part of something bigger — a team, a family, a tribe. We grow together, we challenge one another, and we stand shoulder to shoulder in pursuit of mastery. The Lycan is not just our logo. It’s our identity — fierce but honourable, wild but disciplined, instinctive but technical. Rooted in Irish legend, refined through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. At Lycan Grappling Academy, we don’t just train martial artists. We awaken wolves.
"It is not important to be better than someone else, but to be better than you were yesterday"– Kanō Jigorō
